My name is Paul and I am 24 years old. I was born in Canada, but both of my parents were born in Belfast, Northern Ireland, so I guess traveling has been in my blood since I was young. Plus it gave me two passports, which always helps.
I finished an undergrad degree in History from McGill University in Montreal. I had no real reason for studying history other than the fact that I really enjoyed it. I specialized in European history, and particularly British , so for most of the trips that Dzido and I take I am the tour guide, while he is the translator (he speaks 4 languages). I try to keep my historical insights interesting and stay away from long speeches about agrarian working conditions in the early modern period…unless Dzido can’t sleep. After traveling for a year following my undergrad, I returned to Canada and worked some odd jobs until last September when I started my first year of law school at Queen’s University in Kingston. So these days I slug away at law books and dream of when I lived out of a backpack and didn’t know what country I would be in next week.
My real passion is travel and new experiences. I wanted to backpack Europe since as long as I can remember. Dzido and I have taken 2 big trips together. After our first year of undergrad we went to Europe for a month and went through Germany, Czech Republic, Austria, Switzerland, France, Belgium and Holland. It was a quick trip, but afterwards we knew that we wanted to go back as soon as we could. When the start of our 4th year came, I got Dzido to make a promise- next year we travel for the entire year. With both of us committed and not looking for jobs or grad schools the plan came true. We spent our year after undergrad (2006/2007) traveling through Europe, India and Australia. We ran with the bulls in Pamplona, worked in a pub in England, visited the Taj Mahal, raced around the world to Australia from London, England and then lived out of a van in Australia. WHEW! I am excited just thinking about it.
One of my goals in life is to always make sure I have visited more countries than the number of years I have lived. Right now I am 24 and I have been to 27 countries. Always good to have a few more just in case!
Now we are ready to embark on our latest adventure and we wanted something different. So we are putting our fates in the hands of local advice and going to Ireland with no maps, no research and no planning.
